Our commitment

Our commitment is to generate enduring, positive effects on human health and the environment by engaging in experimentation and exploration. Our key priorities revolve around the circular economy and local manufacturing. We aim to assist our partners and clients in realizing their full potential and contributing positively to the world.

Our Story

In 2010, while on holiday in Borneo, our founder witnessed the profound impacts of environmental degradation—forests decimated and beaches strewn with plastic waste. This eye-opening experience fueled a commitment to take action, prompting him to leave his job and embark on a mission to address these pressing issues. The initial focus of this endeavor was bamboo cultivation, a venture that quickly gained recognition and media attention.

Over the years, the company's commitment to sustainability evolved, transitioning from paper production to pioneering initiatives in bio-concrete and bioplastics. Crafted from locally sourced elephant grass, these innovative materials not only demonstrated environmental stewardship but also propelled the company into the esteemed ranks of the Top 100 innovative SMEs in the Netherlands.

After more than a decade of valuable experience in The Netherlands, working on diverse projects, our founder recognized the urgency of addressing environmental challenges on a global scale. The realization that climate change knows no borders became the driving force behind the creation of The Open Mind company.

We are independent consultants, leveraging our Dutch expertise to explore sustainable materials from various crops and fostering international collaboration. We export knowledge abroad and embrace global insights to achieve sustainable goals.

Discover the Future of Value Creation

Tomorrow's industries in the Living and Built Environment thrive on sustainable materials crafted from Date Palm fibers, Miscanthus fibers, Bamboo, Hemp, Flax, and more. With expertise in chipboard and concrete for the built environment, as well as fibers for paper and diverse bioplastics, we pave the way for eco-conscious applications.

Partners

The Open Mind company is proud to be a part of Noorderwind, a collective of experienced, optimistic, and energetic entrepreneurs with a genuine can-do mentality. Together, we leverage our diverse skills to construct the future we all aspire to be a part of. By joining forces, we can also bring larger projects to fruition, showcasing the power of collaboration and shared vision. For several international projects, we collaborate with Wageningen Research.

Materials

We specialize in cutting-edge biobased materials for construction and daily life. From chipboard, panels, and concrete mixes to bioplastic for injection molding, extrusion, and 3D printing filament, as well as composite materials for building blocks and insulation. Our materials are not only functional but also environmentally friendly.

The CO2 Challenge

The world is witnessing a pivotal shift towards addressing climate change through initiatives like the CO2 market.

In the realm of materials and carbon storage, terms like "carbon capture" are gaining prominence. This refers to the development of materials that actively absorb and retain CO2 throughout their lifecycle. Notable examples include biobased plastics, wood products, and specific types of concrete, incorporating organic elements that initially absorbed CO2 during their growth phase.
